First Aid Equipment
One of the ways to identify professional rescuers and advanced medical personnel is by the equipment at their disposal in an emergency. If you are a lifeguard, an EMT, or other professional rescuer, there is no excuse for failing to have the proper equipment on hand or to use it correctly.
First aid equipment in this section consist of the following:
- Automated external defibrillators (AEDs)
- Backboards
- Bandages, dressing, and splints
- First aid kits
- Litters and transports
- Oxygen equipment
- Personal protective equipment
- Specialty equipment and innovations
Assessing equipment and other resources needed for first aid care is one of the goals of the scene size-up. Having the right first aid equipment when you need it can be the difference between prolonged morbidity and rapid recovery or even life and death.
