The world is mourning as we watch heartbreaking images from the Japan earthquake and Pacific tsunami, and as we remain concerned about the continuing nuclear threat. The American Red Cross has mobilized funds and disaster management expertise to support the Japanese Red Cross Society’s ongoing relief efforts. We’re also funding approximately half of the United Nations World Food Programme’s (WFP) logistical operation in Japan.
We have prepared the following slideshow for you, acknowledging Red Cross Month in March. These photos remind us that in a moment's notice our world can change, just as it did for millions of survivors in Japan. - David Meltzer, International Services
Ronald,
The kindness, mercy and human compassion that turn heartbreak to hope have not changed in 130 years.
You can appreciate the same tender care shown by a volunteer Red Cross nurse decades ago, as with shelter staff providing food and a roof over their heads for Japan earthquake survivors.
During Red Cross Month, we reflect on such lifesaving moments that we, together with you, are a part of - down the street, across the country and around the world.
And if you haven’t already, join the Red Cross, a movement of millions responding to the needs of our neighbors at home and abroad. Every day - almost 200 times a day - we provide relief and other emergency assistance, so that families are not alone in the dark hours immediately after a disaster.
Thank you again for being part of this dynamic, life-changing mission.
Sincerely,
Gail McGovern
President and CEO, American Red Cross
